Colorado Veteran - Senior Living - Harmony Senior Referrals

If you or your loved one served in the military, you may be eligible for a little-known benefit that can make a big difference when it comes to paying for senior care. It’s called the VA Aid and Attendance benefit, and it’s designed to help qualifying veterans and surviving spouses afford the daily support they need.

What Is Aid & Attendance?
Aid and Attendance is a pension benefit offered by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. It provides monthly financial assistance to veterans—or their surviving spouses—who require help with everyday activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, or mobility.

This benefit is in addition to your regular VA pension, and it can be used toward:

Who Qualifies?
To qualify, a veteran must meet the following criteria:

  • Served at least 90 days of active duty, with at least one day during a wartime period
  • Received an honorable or general discharge
  • Be 65 or older, or permanently and totally disabled
  • Require assistance with daily living activities (as documented by a physician)

Surviving spouses of eligible veterans may also qualify, as long as they haven’t remarried.

How Much Can You Receive?
As of 2025, monthly Aid and Attendance benefit amounts may reach up to:

  • $2,727 for a veteran with a dependent
  • $1,478 for a surviving spouse

These amounts can vary based on your circumstances and the cost of care. That’s why it’s important to work with someone who understands the system. Speak with a senior care specialist today.
